Were Canada to ban floor crossing, we would be suppressing the individual minds of those we elect, and further concentrating power in party leaders. As things stand now, floor crossing protects independence and keeps pressure on leaders to treat their colleagues well lest they watch those colleagues head elsewhere. Floor crossing – and the threat of it – protects us from a system where those we elect turn into mindless drones serving nothing more than the centralized will of ‘the leader.’

I'm not even talking about the more specific details/consequences I shared in 'In Trudeau's Kitchen.' (i.e. how the Star may have been negligent with respect to not telling my story). Those will be explored soon. I'm talking about the bigger picture consequences of media not sharing important details about political leadership with the citizenry. Oh, how we suffer in their absence. In this case, I begin with something shared with me (2021)  by then Toronto Star Journalist Robert Cribb, to the effect that the RCMP had informed them that then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was watching kiddie porn (underage porn) on his devices. It was their job to witness him, in order to ensure his devices weren't compromised by a foreign power. When asked (2022) if this story was going to go public, Cribb confirmed that the original source was credible, and affirmed that the story was coming ('where there's smoke, there's fire.'). It never came, and I believe it should have. I have struggled with this, and various other things shared with me by media, for a long time. At the link below is the filing itself, for anyone interested in following the story. It is for the court to decide, but it is my view that the Star, particularly in a situation where they are receiving funds from the government, had a fiduciary duty to bring this information to the Canadian public. For a physicist Susskind doesn't sound very smart, these are problems that were worked out by many of his contemporaries decades ago. 0.1 c is a pretty realistic target. That gets you to Alpha Centauri in 42 years. Twice that speed is a stretch goal but still achievable, which gets you to Tau Ceti in 60 years. The interstellar dust and cosmic radiation problems are greatly exaggerated. The interstellar medium is very very sparse and the chance of hitting macroscopic objects is almost zero. Cosmic radiation is a known but manageable problem, mainly a question of shielding. Sure, at high relativistic velocity (e.g. 50% c or greater) these two things become unmanageable and dangerous, but that's not even under consideration. Jumping out to nearby stars in the nearest one or two dozen light-years from Sol is extremely difficult but definitely achievable. The real challenges are not even technical in nature, they are mostly social and psychological, e.g. how do you engineer a society that can maintain self-cohesion over such a long journey.
