With every transformational technology, there comes a wave of mass euphoria
This is normal
This however causes us to overestimate how much people will change their behaviour in the short term
While underestimating how fundamentally the world will change in the long term
For ex, with mobile, we expected everybody and their mother to have a native mobile app; vastly overestimating the number of mobile apps
But in the long run we underestimated the degree to which we'd be addicted to our phones
With Crypto, we expected everything including monkey jpegs to turn into crypto assets, overestimating its day to day usefulness
But in the long run we underestimated the impact it would have on the financial infrastructure

@sin4ch Okay why don't you use a button phone that way you kill two birds with 1 stone you achieve your detox while also being in communication with the world, but in a control manner.

people who have gone for nysc, what do you need your phone for? i want to leave everything tech behind. i need a detox. is this plausible or wise?

@sin4ch My phone got damaged a day before my camp trip. I bought a small torch phone on my way, so my family can connect with me. I had one of the best camp experiences, as I connected with people more than I expected and made real friends like @Fav_Barman. (He took all my pics too.)

@sin4ch The phone I took to camp had a bad back camera so I didn't use it much and tbh it's not a bad idea because I participated in activities like dancing and the likes but you'll still need it to join platoon groups and the likes. We also got our call up letter on our phone via portal

If you fear that you may get distracted by your phone, don't worry, you won't. In camp, you barely have time for yourself.
Take your phone with you. You will need it.
