All too common. I’ve seen this repeated many times over the years. Thank goodness most give up - it’s bad enough that so many Brits come and try to create their own version of “England” in Italy as it is. I suspect that taxes play a large role - along with the discovery that you cannot simply think of a way of earning money and go do it. What they did right: rented and tried it out for a few months. What most do: buy an over-priced dream house, needing significant work and subsequently find they can’t sell it
