Just got my new credit card in the post. Originally got it for the free foreign transactions, but honestly haven’t used it since that holiday. Now I’m wondering...what are the best no-annual-fee credit cards on the UK market right now? Which one do you use and why? 👇

@techpoliticsuk @ItsJamesHall Europcar are usually the main ones here. Their T&Cs are quite explicit. Perhaps an Italian issue.

@techpoliticsuk @ItsJamesHall It wouldn’t at my local airport. Had friends come out and they tried every desk. No one would accept anything but a credit card. In the U.K. I’ve tried myself and they’ll sometimes accept a debit card if you take out full insurance.

@andyturner @ItsJamesHall I’ve been hiring in Europe and Apple Pay with a debit card works fine.

@techpoliticsuk @ItsJamesHall You’ll need a credit card generally to hire a car in Europe. Many hire car companies won’t accept a debit card - some demand a large cash deposit instead but I’ve seen quite a few holiday makers turned down completely.

@ItsJamesHall Unless you need a credit score for a new mortgage- cut it up. And the rate should never matter if you are always paying it off for the mortgage score. For foreign transactions get a Revolut debt card

@wealthby50 I built walls, a ventilated roof, reinforced concrete subfloors - I’ve tackled all kinds of stuff. Once in my 40s, I just became a sponge and got more satisfaction learning and then doing jobs myself. I’m still mostly that way inclined but am a little less enthusiastic perhaps.

@andyturner Absolutely, I definitely can do more. It’s just easy sometimes to pay someone but I end up just watching and talking might as well do what I can myself 🙌🏼

Investing has genuinely changed my mindset. A few years ago I’d have happily paid someone £140 to power wash the drive. Today I spent the afternoon doing it myself. That’s £140 that stays in my pocket and goes straight into my portfolio instead. Small decisions. Big long-term impact.
