👉 Paraquat dichloride is an internationally recognised, most acutely toxic herbicide used in agriculture. Even minimal exposure to it, whether through ingestion, inhalation or skin contact, can cause hazardous effects on the human body, including lung, kidney, and liver failure and, ultimately, death. However, there is no antidote for this dangerous poison, which is frequently used by poor farmers. 👉 It is also causing harm to the air, sand, water and soil. Even countries like China, the UK, and others have banned it. 👉 I request the Hon’ble Agriculture Minister and the Chemical and Fertiliser Minister to please ban this dangerous chemical, as whoever consumes it will ultimately face death. : Dr. Kadiyam Kavya ji in Lok Sabha

On this day in 1954, inspired by the philosophy of the Académie Française, an autonomous scholarly body was inaugurated in New Delhi. It was envisioned as a place where the "immortals" of literature would guide the nation’s intellectual life - the Sahitya Akademi. Interestingly, Jawaharlal Nehru served as its first president. While it might seem odd for a Prime Minister to head a literary body, Nehru was adamant that the institution remain independent of political interference. He famously remarked, "As President of the Akademi, I may have to tell the Prime Minister to mind his own business if he interferes." The Akademi’s first General Council featured a formidable lineup of literary luminaries, including Suniti Kumar Chattopadhyay, K.M. Panikkar, Dr. Zakir Hussain, C. Rajagopalachari, and Maulana Azad. Even the logo carries a touch of genius,it was designed by Satyajit Ray, the 6'4" visionary from Kolkata who was yet to mesmerize global audiences with his "celluloid magic." In 1961, to commemorate the centenary of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth, the Akademi moved into its permanent home at Rabindra Bhavan. Designed by the renowned architect Habib Rahman, the building still stands today as the ultimate HQ for India's literary legacy.

When the poor receive subsidies to survive, it’s called “revdi” and “freebies”. When Adani and Ambani receive land at throwaway prices, tax exemptions, and lakhs of crores in loan write-offs - it’s called development. The poor are shamed. The powerful are celebrated. I am open to a conversation about freebies - but let’s be honest and account for both sides of the equation.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Iran: Today more than ever, it is essential to remember that one can be against a hateful regime, as is the case with the Iranian regime, as is the whole of Spanish society, and at the same time be against an unjustified, dangerous military intervention outside of international law. That one must be against a war initiated without the authorization of the United States Congress or the United Nations Security Council and, as I have said before, one that violates international law. And that there is always room for a negotiated solution, instead of being dragged along by the devastation of arms as the only possible way out. Therefore, I would like once again, as we have done since the beginning, to appeal for immediate de-escalation, for full respect for international law in all the conflicts we are unfortunately suffering, and for the urgency of resuming dialogue as soon as possible. That is where Spain will be, and that is where I believe the whole of the European Union should be.

Suella Braverman@SuellaBraverman

Multiculturalism has utterly failed. Britain is sadly losing its grip of our cultural heritage, traditions, Christian values, sense of history and unity. Too many politicians have shied away from dealing with this crisis of confidence that many millions of British people feel. We need to fix the problems of poor integration.

This headline could be read as the opposite of what I argue in this chapter: "While Marx’s work is open to critique... we still live under the rule of capital. The admittedly incomplete theory of capital circulation and accumulation that Marx laid out is plainly still relevant."
