so learned that i need to apparently run my ideas by other people sometimes lmao. or remember i’m writing about known obsessive weirdos. i’m hoping that how i’ve decided to explore it doesn’t disappoint

it’s actually kinda funny how many ppl have mentioned they think Nat dating Misty’s ex is a great concept bc when i first thought of it, i really did think that no one would want to read it and the audience for it was only me

it’s very confusing watching people think under 500 kudos is a small amount of kudos on a fic… are people only in big fandoms and only reading for bigger ships?? have some people never had a rarepair or just been in a small fandom??

@WhodunitLover it really is 😭😭 i haven’t even had a really big ship in a couple of years now and it’s crazy how different that can be from smaller ones even in the same fandom

@stardustalien16 idek what the "big" fandoms in this era are, but when I was a teenager I was pretty much exclusively into some of the larger fandoms and the difference is kinda crazy

@stardustalien16 I’m currently actively reading a fandom with only 1.5K-ish works in total for the entire fandom 😅 500 kudos is an insanely huge number of kudos in this fandom. I find that most of these posts are made from people who are active in super big fandoms, so I just ignore it lol

@ishipandfangirl oh some people def don’t lol. some ships have insane amounts of fanfic (ik some of the top of my head that have 10k, 20k, 50k fics written for them) so if you don’t want to, you never have to read the new stuff. i love seeing what new fics get written though so i don’t get it

@DominikaAeriar fanfic doing ‘well’ has a lot more variables + is so fandom depend that sometimes the most popular fics in a fandom where either written early on or at peak popularity while some amazing fics that were written later get ignored or lost in the amount of fics posted

@stardustalien16 I don't even look at the number of kudos anymore... I've seen some really badly written things with hundreds or even thousands and I've seen literary masterpieces with barely tens. It's absolutely irrelevant parameter.

@Mac_Pudding i usually start there out of curiosity but with big fandoms, i almost always use tags to get what i like specifically pretty quickly. but like, when i first started reading mistynat, we didn’t even have 300 fics yet, so i just went through the tag without nothing lol

@abigailblossoms yeah ppl can’t read everything. if you’re writing for a popular ship during a time it’s getting a lot of new fics posted, you could do everything right and still get overlooked bc there’s just So Much. that’s why in big fandoms, i filter by tags a lot more than i do w small ones

@stardustalien16 for sure, have to adjust to fandom size, ship popularity, whether the show is currently airing/on hiatus/over etc. but honestly, i would think even with big fandoms/popular ships, some select ones might blow up, but imagine how many gems get buried and missed in a really busy tag

thinking about this in the context of age gap mistynat is v funny bc no matter if Misty’s older or younger, she’s using slang that’s out of date and doing it wrong too. Nat’s only googling shit trying to get her to knock it off (she does think it’s cute and can’t stop her anyway)
