Sum Maths Tuition

@1stclassmaths Examq has Edexcel questions from 8MA0 and 9MA0. I've thought about putting something together myself but copyright infringement scares me.

Has anyone gone through and categorised A-Level questions but topic much like gcsemathsquestions.co.uk for GCSE?

@wholemars Are you assuming that you get the same mileage from 15.8 gallons of petrol as 57.5kWh of electricity. And are you also assuming it takes more time to refuel a car than to charge a car. These figures are not comparable.

A Toyota Camry has a 15.8 gallon tank. With California average gas prices for regular at $4.63 a gallon, it costs $73.18 for a full tank. A Tesla Model 3 RWD has a 57.5 kWh battery. Assuming a Southern California electrify price of $0.23 per kWh, it costs just $13.22 to charge from 0 - 100 so realistically your average RV charging session will be like $5 or $6 whereas your average gas station stop will cost you $50 - $70 + the value of your time.

Anyone have a list of what didn’t come up in A level Edexcel paper 1 ?

@Ridermeister That is a weird question. The algebra isn't too bad. I got n=45. But then when you look at it carefully the 25th angle is 180° which makes no sense and how would you construct this polygon? It starts with two acute angles of 84° and 88°.

@ECR_Maths The first one is 3.4% and the last one is 15.2% by my calculations.

I've been staring at this council tax statement for ages, trying to work out how the overall percentage change is higher than all the individual component percentage changes... is it just me, or is the maths not mathing? I'm a maths teacher, but I'm also very tired 😅

@MathsMrCox Or In common parlance this means one or the other but not both. In maths we include both.

The new EEF science report talks about ‘polysemous’ words: those with both an everyday meaning and a different or more specific scientific meaning. I think these are an issue in maths too? Any examples of ones that cause you and your pupils issues?

@MrCFMaths I don't use the papers that are still locked when tutoring but there are mock papers on the emporium.

Walking around my Y7 lesson, I spied my board from the back of the room and was so proud of how neat it was that I had to take a picture 😄

@Ridermeister @mathsjem @Whitehughes @Arithmaticks @missradders I left teaching for tutoring a few years ago. I find having non-exam year students offers some stability as they usually return the next year. I also mark summer exams for two exam boards.
