so the government is planning MANDATORY CHANGES to how content is discovered on YouTube in the UK. - they want YouTube to prioritise mainstream broadcasters like BBC, ITV and Channel 4 over user created content with a 'prominence regime' this is absolutely insane and is going to severely affect everyone british youtuber should this go through. YouTube have started a campaign to fight this, but we need your help to ensure this doesn't go through like this, since this could RUIN the site

@Miss_Snuffy I'd love to share with you the emails I get all the time from students who do not even have a qualified maths teacher or who missed huge chunks of school due to medical reasons. Many content creators support both teachers and students.

Funny. 🤣 I wonder where else children might learn GCSE content and from whom? I just can’t think of how that might happen apart from via YouTube. 🥴

@Mr_AlmondED In the past year to date my maths videos have been watched for 1.6 million hours. That's 182 years. I have a monthly audience of over 750,000 viewers, 80% of which are from the UK. Do you know how many secondary students don't have a qualified maths teacher?

@christianjbdev The ban removes the ability to create an account. You can view content without an account. It is not an issue.

I don't have a strong opinion on the UK social media ban, but including YouTube seems excessive. There's so much great educational content on YT. And it's practically replaced television for many of us. It would seem very intrusive for a government to ban TV for under 16s.

@VCS_Addict I disabled comments because two others were going off on a rant and one had no idea what was going on. You’re also struggling. If you are 16 you can make an account which means you can upload content, engage with strangers etc. Anyone can view content whilst not being logged in.

@VCS_Addict No, I am saying the sensationalist headline that children will no longer be able to access revision materials on YT is a gross overreaction. All students will have no issues accessing the content. Those who are 16 will be able to view whilst logged in also. It’s simple really.

@1stclassmaths so you are saying a students birthday depends if you are allowed to use important revision resources... when students born later are already more likely to struggle

Such a massive overreaction to this. YouTube content will still sit there. U16s just won't be able to create an account, upload content, comment, be tracked or have an algorithm decide their content. All good things.

With today's news of an impending UK social media ban, here are some important points raised during the "UK Government Consultation". Ban the other platforms for under-16's if you must, but don't stop young people from learning. YouTube isn't social media - it's where we learn.

@1stclassmaths @Just_Maths So you have released a video on the GCSE exam that the majority of school will use for mocks and are locked so pupils don't have access. Sounds a bit iffy mate.

A reminder … We need to be asking questions if people are producing hit lists … or they’re making stuff up!!

@Just_Maths People streaming the entire paper now. Same thing happens every year and they do nothing about it (or are powerless to do so).

@1stclassmaths It wasn’t but it’s basically malpractice if they are being released by exams officers. The regs are there to ensure a level playing field.

@Just_Maths Yeah that's a problem for exam boards to look into. Most of them look like kids have taken the photos themselves. Anyone could also have entered as a private candidate and just memorised the paper.
