After some more thought, I believe that what he said was extremely bad, and given the full context of the conversation, what he said is made even worse (He defends Trump looking at teenagers while naked, given that their parents were okay with it). If AI is improving your pace and quality of code, then great, more power to you, but then you weren't a very good coder in the first place. I have not found any LEGITIMATELY expert coder (not just some self-proclaimed one who believes vibe coding is equivalent to expertise) who finds AI coding tools useful at this time.

Plus, you know what's even worse than sitting around waiting for AI to come up with a solution? Context switching away from the AI, then coming back to it, only for it to not have solved your problem, requiring you to now reprompt it with additional information in the hope that it didn't just hallucinate an API and will fix itself, and then context switch _back_ to one of the myriad of other AI driven solutions you were working on which may also require reprompting or "finessing" to get working.

That is quite literally not how experienced coders work. Instead they get engrossed in the one problem they are working on until completion. Context switching creates significant overhead and results in loss of focus on a particular solution. It quite literally results in worse code.

@METR_Evals Experienced Developers shouldn't be waiting for AI to finish they should be working on something else and coming back to check on the work after 30+ minutes. Most likely the cause of this slowdown is the devs were not multi-tasking on multiple things.

It is worth pointing out that at the point of the presentation a lot of what was being seen there was being faked and didn't actually have a proper in-game implementation yet.
