Nerd Deep Housecleaning Update: I found the OLDEST documentation for my games, way back from 1994. These are the originalest hint books, docs, and reference cards (!) for my first game. In 1994, we lonely few shareware game developers had to reinvent the computer games biz for the internet age. How to sell games? What to keep? What to lose? I felt that, to be a real, grown-up game developer, your game had to come with printed documentation, plus a hotkey reference to reverently prop up by your machine. So we mailed every purchaser instructions, thus dramatically increasing the cost and hassle of doing business. Happily, we figured out very quickly that paper instructions were a big waste. Instead, our games came with online instructions. But PDFs didn't exist yet! So we had to use programs like WinHelp to make instructions files. Which nobody ever read. I still keep this debris. Whenever I look at it, I remember that I never have to order booklets at copy shops again, and I am happy.
