Indian Navy actually wanted 5th gen fighter fighter to replace Mig 29K fighters. It approached ADA to conuct feasablity studies for a Naval AMCA But ADA assured them that it would be quicker to developed a 4th gen fighter first and subsequently develop a 5th gen from it IN wanted the the first flight of the new aircraft to happen by 2026 so it confirm its availability to replace Mig 29 in 2026 Its 2026 and Ted-bf still hasn't even recived funding for CCS in 2026 and with current state of even IN won't have a stealth fighter till 2050s meanwhile China is inducting 5th gen and working on 6th gen Naval Fighters

@Tsukuyomi2170 It was in the context of IAC-2 aka INS Vishal, but since there is no budget for it. IN only wants aircraft for IAC-1, R33 and another Vikrant class for now, which is TEDBF

I have seen more posts defending a party for giving freebies saying other party is doing the same than doing criticism of both the parties and raising voice against such type of freebies. We deserve bad cause we are bad👍

@GauravT71548031 @wartrophy_414 Sir we keep hearing that "Rafale is a proven platform which will provide much needed capability addition". Can you explain how Rafale is combat proven against a near peer adversary ? And no lauching cruise missiles and HAMMERs don't count. How many kills does it have?

Obviously project management. Soviets would have purged the top leadership and the lot in IAF, if they saw their level of project management You need special ability to be this incompetent

@GauravT71548031 @wartrophy_414 You know writing long af paragraphs and doing word celling that amounts to nothing, doesn't make you look smart to those who actually read "give us the proven capability platform and hedge risks." This line just shows how incompetent your organization and you guys are

Important to not keep reducing every point to just one. Very important. So no matter how much the Rafale deal angers you, try and see the point I am making. The point is, restoration of IAF to 42 Sqns isn't enough. Expansion is needed. And arguments saying 'now 42 not needed due to drones/missiles blah.. Blah... ' are somehow not applied to naval and land forces. Despite clear limitations to their employability. Now, how is that expansion yo be achieved? Well... 40+ 180 + 120 (at least) + 40 (likely to be increased) + more (to be decided later) of Mk1, Mk1A, Mk2, AMCA, AMCA+. That's like 460-500 of indigenous fighters. All in various stages of development. National defence cannot be premised entirely on developmental programs in the realm of aerospace. At least not till your industry builds up. So we will get there at the end. But aren't there yet. 114+36 (+26+more of IN) give us the proven capability platform and hedge risks. Also will allow capability build up of the private partner. Manufacturing standards, techniques, program management, skills, supply chains and what have you. Neither is it like a lumpsum payment. $ 40 bn, one go. Poof. No. Will be spread out over 7-8 years, with some ploughing back into Indian defence ecosystem. Now, even if you do not believe me, and have differences, I'd request you to have an open mind, and let's consider the larger issue highlighted. I take it that you agree with the need to expand the IAF but want it to be all indigenous. And that's a good start.

Mention of restoration of the IAF to the sanctioned level invariably draws this response. But the PLAAF and PAF somehow haven't heard of it yet. Or at least they aren't heeding it. PAF has grown from 16-17 fighter sqns to 21-22 today. The PLAAF has grown to be the largest AF in the world in manpower terms, and has become a very potent aerospace force with possibly 1200 5G fighters by 2030. They didn't get the memo it seems. Now all this expansion is OVER AND ABOVE Capacity enhancement in the missile/drone/rocket segment. They, as with Ukraine and Russia and the Western countries clearly do not pay heed to this advice than one sees many OG and white uniform veterans pushing very forcefully. Somehow this argument is never made for armoured forces, or for naval forces. Despite limited effectiveness in the roles envisaged for them (of course I am not stating full context here), no calls for reviewing the Naval expansion plans, or re assessing the actual cost benefit analysis of a (say) mountain strike Corps. The IAF, despite actively creating swarm drone capability in India through the Mehar Baba initiative, and committing to 4 of its principal warfighting units (squadrons) inducting UCAVs, is forever preached to. Corresponding uncrewed large surface and underwater combatant programs are by comparison at an early stage. Uncrewed tank programs are at Idex stage. Respected and knowledgeable veterans must desist from this argument at least. There are others which can be discussed. But this one, is inexplicable. Or, let's apply the same to sea and land as well.
Sudhir Pillai@sudhirpillai__

3/9 The monograph's own numbers do the heavy lifting. 29 squadrons against a sanctioned 42. 8-10 Tejas a year against a requirement of two squadrons annually. China producing 100 fighters a year. These aren't criticisms of the IAF. They are the structural inheritance it is flying with — and the story of India's defence industrial ecosystem, of which @HALHQBLR is both product and emblem. But the numbers themselves need revisiting — the 42-squadron benchmark was conceived in a manned-platform world. The honest question today is what the right force mix looks like when unmanned enablers, loyal wingmen, and manned-unmanned teaming are factored in alongside the fighter fleet. The deficit may be real. The yardstick measuring it may need updating first. My post needs deeper reading: radmsudhirpillai.substack.com/p/the-node-wit…
