@jnunemaker Might not be helpful for live analytics, but a pixel to flat files via a log then separating compute from data (eg querying Parquet files from disk or S3) is pretty cool. Our biggest challenge now is filtering automated/scraper traffic to better trust the data.

@willcodeforfoo I still don’t get duck for anything remotely live. Like you just shove stuff on s3 then use duck to shove into pg or how does it work?

@jnunemaker I’ve done this for GeoJSON… PostGIS is better at it than RGeo, etc.

My hot take: It's a neat trick for hobby stuff but I wouldn't do this at scale. State (aka the database) is the most difficult thing to scale. Don't make it do more work than it already has too. Just put in a few more app servers to generate that json. Or do a horrible thing I once did when working on words with friends... string concatenation. 🤣🤣

🔥 Tried every #rails JSON serializer—but your API is still slow and leaking memory on large datasets? Let #PostgreSQL handle JSON serialization. It's 20-100x faster and slashes memory usage. 🚨 Trade-offs: More complex SQL and less of your favorite #ruby code—but if nothing else helped, this is a game-changer.

I used to just spend money on fonts for my talks. Now I spend additional money on midjourney.
