It impacts China more than anyone. Saudi and UAE have diverted to pipelines. Still short 9 million BPD globally. The US is ramping up more production but still not enough.
However, blocking the Strait and taking out their access to export via land is like a boa constrictor. The US will crush them completely economically until they get regime change or total compliance. Power play by the US. No different than the Barbary Wars.

Trump is retaliating against Iran by double closing the Strait of Hormuz. So, now Iran's oil can't get out either. Ok, but what will that do to oil prices? Make them much higher!! And that will hurt our economy very badly. So, ironically, that only INCREASES Iran's leverage.

Trump’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz does impact Iran’s cash machine, just not enough.
Yes, it targets Iran's toll booth on the world's most vital waterway, and yes, it squeezes Iran’s oil export revenue.
But Iran sells oil to China through other backchannels that the blockade won’t impact, and Russia also supplies Iran with material and military equipment through the Caspian Sea. Both are unaffected by this blockade.
Iran's cash machine has more pipelines than one strait.
So this announcement is less about strangling Iran's economy and more about a single, defining question that has been at the center of this entire war:
Who controls access to the Strait of Hormuz, and on what terms?
Iran has been saying it does. Trump just said America does.
The talks failed, and the escalating chess moves are resuming on both sides.
Trump has made his move, but it’s not exactly check mate yet.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 21 hours, and nothing changed. Top guys from both sides dipped, and now it’s mostly the technical teams still packing up, some literally flying out commercial. That alone tells you where things stand. The problem runs deep and it’s heavy: U.S. came in with 3 hard red lines: - No nukes, no path to nukes - Hormuz must open - No ballistic missile capability Iran didn’t budge on any of them. So talks just… stalled. Meanwhile, Hormuz is still messy. Mines in the water, oil traffic basically stuck. Even Iran admitted they don’t fully know where all the mines are, so now the U.S. is stepping in to help clear them. That’s wild if you think about it. And the missile issue? That’s tied directly to Operation Epic Fury. The U.S. already hit those capabilities, and now they want to make sure Iran doesn’t rebuild them. So yeah, no deal after 21 hours. Not even close.
