As a former Infantryman with diagnosed PTSD, this 250th anniversary 4th of July, I ask you to be respectful with your fireworks… and make the ground SHAKE! Seriously, if you don’t make the glass in my home rattle, you’re a giant communist pussy.

What is an American? On our country’s 250th birthday, the question is as relevant today as ever. The "Heritage American" bros posting their 23andMe results want you to believe the answer is in your bloodline — pure Anglo-Saxon stock, they might say. Never mind that any "pure" bloodline traced back far enough hits the same tangle everyone else does — pilgrims and immigrants, free men and slaveholders. One in two hundred men descended from Genghis Khan, that hardly makes them Mongol warriors... This week the Supreme Court maintained that anyone born on American soil, regardless of their parents' status, is a citizen. But Justice Thomas argued citizenship was never mere geography — that freedmen earned theirs because they had "no other homeland" and "fought and bled" alongside every other citizen. Then there's naturalized and native-born citizens in Dearborn chanting "Death to America" and holding memorials for Iran's Supreme Leader. Never mind the oath they swore to renounce "all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty" and pledged to “support and defend the Constitution…against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” So, is America a people? Is America a place? Is America an idea. The answer, of course, is “yes.”
