Everyone needs to do reading on the “Rural Purge” of the 60’s and 70’s
Almost every TV show highlighting rural, family friendly life was cancelled almost overnight, despite extremely high ratings.
Why? Because television executives HATED everything they stood for-Portraying rural, Christian, white, heterosexual families and towns as happy and idyllic.
Instead, they preferred to show dysfunction, filth, and confusion. It worked.
