i want to say this as someone older, i understand this concept more being through almost the same thing. even with regular friendships, you have to actively keep on working on the relationship and foster that through time and mutual effort. what’s amazing about seventeen is that they are all actively choosing each other and staying with each other not just out of obligation but of pure want to continue the friendship and the group itself. it takes a LOT of effort to maintain this level of close friendship with this many people and not just any people, it’s the people you work with. everyone in the group obviously is taking their own path with their solo and unit work but are doing so in a way that doesn’t step on the group itself. that’s all so selfless of them and it’s hard. it would definitely be easier to pursue your own thing alone but they don’t. if we take into account more the fact that to continue as a group they probably had to compromise still on a lot of things but found an agreement within each other, you could really understand how much each of them and the group as whole meant to them. they really embody the i love my team, i love my crew

We saw artists chased in airports and on planes, hit with phones, squeezed in crowds, visibly scared and uncomfortable. We saw fans invade private space, push boundaries, and act like basic respect is optional. Some artists even had to apologize for using back exits because the main hall was unsafe. That alone says enough. I do not want to blame one group only, because bad fan behavior exists everywhere. But Chinese BL fan culture has recently become a very concentrated example of how ugly things can get when a small group has no limits, no filters, and no sense of right and wrong. And yes, I said a small group. Most Chinese BL fans are normal, organized, and supportive people. But every fandom has that tiny loud section that turns support into harassment and thinks obsession is a personality trait. Many people have already called this out. Big accounts, small accounts, fans from different countries. The problem is that global discussion changes very little. Most of this content spreads on Weibo and sometimes Xiaohongshu, while criticism on X mostly stays in English and reaches a different audience. So everyone agrees it is wrong, but the behavior continues. The anti-stalking law gave some hope, but the problem was obvious from the start. BL actors and production companies in China cannot always use it properly without drawing more attention to already sensitive projects. So the law exists, but the people who need it most are often the least able to rely on it. That is the bitter joke. I usually prefer not to repost or engage with this kind of content. The people who film and upload those videos want attention, and I do not want to reward them with clicks. But it spreads anyway, so calling it out is still necessary. There may be no perfect way to deal with it, but one fact remains the same, this cannot keep being treated like normal fan behavior. It is not passion. It is not love. It is not support. It is harassment, and it needs to end.
