If necessary, of course it would. While China did not support the invasion, she did say from the outset it was provoked. You might disagree, but many around the world still believe the same. Therefore, for the West and Ukraine to play the injured parties doesn’t wash with Beijing, which will intervene if necessary. Just as the West has intervened from the get go, claiming the moral high ground. Besides anything else, America and the Europeans have stated publicly that their proxy war with Russia, through Ukraine, was only a stepping stone to a war with China, so Beijing has an existential stake in ensuring that Russia doesn’t lose.

@business It’s hardly surprising that China urged Putin not to use a nuclear weapon against Zelensky. Were Russia to do so, it would deprive China of any political cover it might have if and when it was necessary to intervene in the war using conventional weaponry.
