Attacking a uniformed County Enforcement Officer who is on duty — clearly identifiable by their uniform and official identification — is both morally wrong and a serious criminal offence under Kenyan law .It is the constitutional and statutory duty of these officers, under the County Governments Act and relevant municipal regulations, to conduct routine verifications, inspections, and ensure full compliance with licensing and safety requirements at businesses and construction sites. Their operations are guided by clear legal procedures and directives from the County Administration and Municipality Manager .In the unfortunate Githurai-Mwiki incident, officers were carrying out a standard Single Business Permit inspection. They were fully uniformed and operating in a marked County Government vehicle with official registration plates. Regrettably, the business owner allegedly shouted and incited members of the public, who then mobbed and viciously attacked the officers and other county staff on duty, injuring them severely. The assailants also stole the officers’ phones.We strongly condemn this barbaric act of violence against public servants performing their lawful duties. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured officers, who are currently fighting for their lives, and call on the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served swiftly and without compromise.Kiambu County boasts one of the most professional, civilised, and highly disciplined enforcement teams in the country.
