FIFA has banned tailgating at many major World Cup venues. This news comes at the same time as notification of $100+ for return tickets from Penn Station for World Cup matches, and $80-$95 train tickets for Boston World Cup matches. NYC's Penn Station will also be entirely closed to commuters for hours around matches of the international soccer tournament. And FIFA is now charging around $175 on average for parking spots at World Cup venues.

@JBSDC If we kill every job because of efficiency we'd all be much less happy. Similarly if we never let new models and ideas kill old ones we'll also be less happy. The real question lies in how you manage the roll out of later and provide safe nets for those impact. US bad at that IMO

@JBSDC I think there's a balance to strike and I'd argue we've been out of balance for a while, hence this kind of sentiment. I also think local community matter a ton -- it's why I buy all my books from local stores even though Amazon is cheaper.

Everyone should watch this video, especially if you disagree with it as I do. It tells a story of the last 15 years that basically proposes that jobs cannot be eliminated for efficiency because that destroys towns, which functionally is an argument for pure localism.

@raidenkrn No, overestimating. I say this as a power user of many of these tools using them daily to build products. I think there's too much "god in the machine". This stuff *can* be powerful. It is still very limited, and doing things right still needs a lot of human oversight imo.

a 5-person indie studio with the right AI stack can now build what used to require 200 people the gap between web3 gaming and AAA could also be closing, if the teams actually knew how to use the tools most don't who's figuring this out?

@JBSDC I’d also point out that this type of argument cuts both ways. I consider something like “we can’t invest in renewables cause it will hurt oil and gas workers” to be a variation on this kind of position personally

@JBSDC This one is tough. I’ve like Waymo much more than uber/etc when I’ve used it. I honestly have felt safer most the time in one. On the other hand people working and having purpose is a core need for any society, big or small. I don’t think this is a one size fits all thing either.
