just try stepping away for 4-7 days, come back, and you'd feel like a semi-newbie 🥲
Also look around your mutuals
Many who started learning DeFi aren’t here anymore
Some went back to Web2 or their 9-5
Some just… disappeared
After observing this pattern for a while,
I noticed a few rabbit holes that quietly push people out of DeFi 👇
1️⃣ 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚'𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑫𝒆𝑭𝒊
I know someone who openly said 'I’m here to make money from InfoFi platforms, once that era ends, I’m out'
That clarity kept him focused
Your reason could be
→ Building a product that solves a real problem
→ Creating content to onboard others
→ Hunting bounties and airdrops strategically
→ Mastering the tech because you genuinely enjoy it
When your why is clear, burnout reduces

2️⃣ 𝑻𝒓𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆
DeFi is not something you finish learning
Yet many people approach it that way
They jump from, DeFi → NFTs → DAOs → Infra → ZK → AI
…all in one week
That’s overwhelming
Learning DeFi is gradual
Start with the basics
Then evolve
Trying to absorb everything at once is a fast track to quitting
3️⃣ 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒍𝒔
Reading about DeFi without interacting with it gets exhausting
For instance
someone who studies liquidity pools but has never added liquidity
will struggle to feel how it works
DeFi clicks when you use it, not when you just read about it
4️⃣ 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒆
You’ve probably met this type
Ask them, What’s your focus in DeFi?
Their answer, 'I do everything'
check back in a few months, they’re usually gone.
→ scattered learning drains energy

5️⃣ 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒍𝒚
when asked, most experienced builders say the same thing
'If I were to start again, I’d build in public from day one'
you don’t need to be an idolo, just share your learning journey
6️⃣ 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚
There’s a difference between a group chat and a community
In a real community people notice when you disappear
They check in
They pull you forward
It’s hard to quit with such a system
7️⃣ 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔
here's where an accountability partner comes in
Someone who
Knows your goals
Tracks your progress
Calls you out when you slack
growth accelerates when someone is watching and you’re watching back

Not everyone deserves your attention
find people already walking the path you want and lock in with them
you can learn directly (by being in their classes, spaces, DMs, community)
or indirectly by observing from a distance
both work if you’re intentional
