“FEMINIST SUPERGIRL BLAMES MEN” Nerdrotic and Drinker just got a feast by her making this statement and that’s what makes me sick.
Variety@Variety

#Supergirl star Milly Alcock knows she'll face backlash by "simply existing as a woman in [franchise IP]." "We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself." variety.com/2026/film/news…

@Variety Supergirl is around since 1959, she is a well-known female character, played by a female actress in 1984, and now in 2026. But yeah, it must be those pesky woman-hating bigots again! Kindly, fuck off...🙄

@OW_Icicle @SipSipStefen Do these WoW characters also have an in universe Pride month too? Are they doing Pride parades, which are the products of social movements in modern Western society IRL? It’s not very gracious to deliberately misinterpret a point just to avoid dealing with it, you know.🙄

@0xyM2 @SipSipStefen How is it immersion breaking? Any character in the game could be gay/bi/etc, sexuality and identity exists in everything. Also you literally have guilds where people talk, wouldn't that break immersion if you're trying to act as if playing WoW is "living" in that world.

This can turn out to be really bad, seriously. Those M&M's falling thousands of feet to the ground can cause some damage, especially if they hit somebody. People need to use their brain a bit more before doing things for content... 🤬

Star Wars actor John Boyega explained why he doesn’t watch Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones in 2017: “There are no Black people in Game of Thrones,” he said. “You don’t see one Black person in Lord of the Rings. I ain’t paying money to always see one type of person on-screen. Thoughts?

@Whateveraxxount @GloomyGossip @pinknishii Look, maybe at this point I'm a bit cynical about satire, because I see people on both sides make the most absurd arguments with straight faces. If that was satire, making fun of BOTH sides, then I guess I missed the point. If that's the case, my bad.

@0xyM2 @GloomyGossip @pinknishii The point of the original point is show how absurd the logic is on both sides. Just as it would be stupid to say that about straight people, it’s dumb to say that about gay people. What exactly did they miss or are not understanding that makes their satire now invalid?

@GloomyGossip @pinknishii Good, so we have a common ground: artistic integrity and autonomy. I can work with that. If we stick to the ideal scenario in which no external influences affect creators (which forces them into tokenism), then I can agree with such a world where creators’ freedom reigns supreme.

@0xyM2 @pinknishii Personally, I would say the people who write the stories should decide! With perhaps some influence from outside factors, like senstivity readers/research groups (if you want to represent a specific group you don't belong to, these are a must) and fan feedback, within reason!

@Whateveraxxount @GloomyGossip @pinknishii I prefer quality over quantity, and I answered your question. Again, this is a whole different topic. But yes, I'd pick 2 amazingly written character over 10 bad ones, regardless of their sexual orientation. It's a bad way of thinking that more visibility is necessarily better.

@0xyM2 @GloomyGossip @pinknishii But now you’re presenting this as an either or scenario. It’s either we have 2 amazingly written gay characters or 10 horribly written ones. Why not both? We do this constantly with straight characters. We can have 10 amazingly written gay characters.

@GloomyGossip @pinknishii It's called "representation". Larger groups naturally enjoy greater representation, while smaller ones have less. But let me ask you this, because your nitpicking is a bit frustrating: how do you think representation should work? On what basis? Who should regulate and enforce it?

Gossip@GloomyGossip·
@0xyM2 @pinknishii What exactly does population percentage have to do with media representation? Most media focuses on a very select group of people, and depending on who you ask, the amount of queer people present a given group could range from "1-2 individuals" to literally Everyone in it!

@Whateveraxxount @GloomyGossip @pinknishii What I was talking about has nothing to do with "moral validity". Again, it highlights the bad analogy of the original tweet that tries to reverse a bad argument to validate a point.

@0xyM2 @GloomyGossip @pinknishii The other factors are mostly things like, majority and tradition and personal comfort levels, which still are not barriers to more queer representation. Most people being straight does not give it some moral validity over any other sexual orientation.

@Whateveraxxount @GloomyGossip @pinknishii Because a group can be normalized not through greater representation, but through higher-quality representation. But again, this is a very different issue, and completely missing the original point I was making.

@0xyM2 @GloomyGossip @pinknishii Why would it be a problem to have more queer representation to help normalize this group of people? Not enough gay people to justify it? Does this apply to any other group of people? Should we make sure we have just the right amount of gay people to match real life?

@GloomyGossip @pinknishii No, LGBTQ+ people are a minority because they make up 6–9 percent of the population. The fact that these people are treated unfairly is a completely different issue, and frankly, it’s completely irrelevant in our case.

@djairrick It may come as a surprise to you, but there are all kinds of people in a fandom. Using the views of the most extreme opponents to discredit valid criticism may seem like an easy way out, but it’s a double-edged sword that makes meaningful discourse impossible.
