The £5k Lloyds mortgage (also via Halifax) launches 18 May 2026. Min deposit £5,000 (not gifted) on homes £102k-£300k — that's up to 98% LTV, so you borrow most of the value. Aimed at first-time buyers/renters who can already afford monthly housing costs but lack big savings or family help. 5-year fixed rate (5.89% example at launch), up to 40-year term, no product fees. Strict affordability & credit checks apply. You can overpay up to 10% a year penalty-free to clear it faster. Higher LTV means bigger monthly payments and negative equity risk if prices fall. Not for new builds or shared ownership. Check eligibility directly with them.

Nigeria 🇳🇬 and poor record keeping. A Nigerian family in the UK 🇬🇧 reportedly got arrested over an alleged “fake birth certificate” issue involving their child. According the story, the mother said she was called into her child’s school by the headteacher, only for police officers and immigration officials to arrive and arrest her for allegedly using a fraudulent birth certificate for one of her children. She claimed the birth certificate was obtained legally in Nigeria during the child’s immunization process at a primary health centre, same process used for her other child. The woman said: • She and her husband were detained for hours • Their phones, passports and documents were seized • DNA samples were collected from both parents and the children • They were placed on bail and told not to leave the UK 🇬🇧 while investigations continue

It’s not really about having genuine documents, coz I’m sure the family thought they had the right documents before being interrogated too. The question should be “How do we get the right birth certificate” the one where if they reach out to the ministry in Abuja they will be able to verify it. 🤔 Coz all I know is that birth certificates are normally being issued at hospitals and local government (LCDA) secretariats. I ask again, WHAT IS THE WAY FORWARD?
