Hip shoulder separation has been a hot topic for years in pitching. Short answer to your question about needing it, is no. Not in the context most people think. “Hold the upper half closed longer” doesn’t really work in most cases. Sure it’s a useful cue, and if it works, it works 🤷♂️. But that’s really not what’s happening. The torso and pelvis aren’t going in opposite directions, so counter rotation is just going to make it that much harder to get separation if that’s what you’re searching for. Insert @fransboschsystems real rotation concept. This is where the separation comes from the pelvis and torso rotating in the same direction but the pelvis is slightly ahead of the torso creating tension through the abs and obliques.
