When I first took finance seriously as a career, I adopted the whole “Tony the Bull” persona It was a bull market. I am an Italian guy named Tony who watched too many mob movies growing up It was fun. I knew it was a memorable hook in an intimidating industry I was just stepping into, and I was a former media guy so I knew how to brand myself The problem was, it wasn’t my true self “The Bull” confused everyone. They thought that meant that I would be an only-up permabull. I accurately called the 2022 bottom and every major move on the way to $100K+ When “The Bull” started calling tops in Bitcoin, my audience felt betrayed by me But if I didn’t call out the top, I would have betrayed ME So I did it. I turned “heel” and embraced the hate and all the “Tony the Bear” comments I was shocked by the hatred. I felt slightly betrayed at times. I literally got death threats via DM. I also murdered my subscription revenue this way. No one wanted to pay to hear bad news But something truly interesting started happening to me. I was having a blast being the bad guy for a few. Not because I am really a bear and like seeing prices fall or people lose money (I want everyone to win) I started to enjoy it because it further showed me how emotional everyone was at the top. It cemented my ideas and ability to see the environment clearly during moments when everyone else couldn’t — because their emotions were getting the best of them [Quick side note: I still lose my cool. Just not in markets anymore. It gives me hope I can improve all areas of my life 🙏] Because I myself was having fun, I did a lot of experimentation. I inverted charts and posted them without a ticker. I hid price and just showed off signals. I posted content designed to get people to think and open their eyes (my media background) Everyone saw this Some chose to open their eyes. Many more chose to look the other way But they still saw it I never wavered. I never altered my tone or stopped telling my truth I have been mostly accurate for quite a stretch at this point. But that’s not why I am uniquely valuable I am proven trustworthy and publicly stress-tested in the scam- and imposter-filled world of Bitcoin.
