We studied in the US at UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley. We had strong job opportunities abroad, but we chose to come back to India, because we believed in the Government’s push for entrepreneurship, women-led manufacturing, and schemes designed to support founders. Thread:

We didn’t just talk about building here — we invested our personal savings, acquired a small factory in Noida, and completed MSME & DPIIT registrations to build responsibly from day one. We believed that if we followed the system, the system would support us.

As a woman-led greenfield manufacturing startup, we applied for a machinery loan under SBI Asmita, clearly under the CGTMSE collateral-free framework — which exists to help first-time entrepreneurs start without heavy assets.

Instead, we were repeatedly asked for collateral. Our file was returned due to lack of stock and machinery — even though the loan itself was for procuring machinery. After escalation, we were again advised to consider LAP. Branch Code: 11474.

We are not sharing this to complain, we returned to India because we genuinely believe this is the best place to build. But right now, it feels like there is a gap between policy intent and on-ground implementation. Many early founders may quietly give up at this stage.
