@PerBylund The real problem is that to a large extent teachers have repudiated this first role in favor of the second.

It is not a problem that teachers specialize in educating our children, to help them acquire skills, expertise, and knowledge. But it is a problem that teachers have thereby also been given the role of grandparents: to instill in us the values, norms, and traditions of society.

There seems to be zero reflection on the question: If the measured achievement isn’t the reason, why parents are paying so much to escape the public system? This guy’s inference is that they are just stupid. I’m guessing most have very intentional and specific things they are seeking to avoid in the public school system.

@peterboghossian And to extend this discussion: not only is it true that these institutions do not deserve our trust, it is also true that institutions NEVER reform from within. We should not try to “fix” them. They must be replaced.

One of the main reasons the public does not trust our institutions is because they are not worthy of trust. They are not pluralistic. They are ideologically captured and that capture taints research, outcomes, methodology, and completely destroys trust. As it should.

@RichardZokol @THEPLAYERS I asked this question on another thread: if you polled the current exempt PGA Tour players asking “Would you rather win a Players or a PGA,” what percent would answer PGA?

The “major championship” argument makes more sense after the end of this @THEPLAYERS championship than it did before the start of the tournament.

@Top100Rick If you polled the current exempt tour players with the question would you rather in a Players or a PGA, I think a majority might say Players.

The Players Championship is clearly NOT a major. However, it clearly is better than one of them. One of the best Sundays of golf in a long time. We saw everything. We finally got the conditions and setup to really test the players. What a damn day.

Bill Maher’s rich guests look like deer in headlights when he asks what the solution is to Elon Musk becoming worth 2.7% of the U.S. GDP. MAHER: “Forbes came out this week with their richest list.” “Musk - $840 billion.” “What should we do when people have this much money?” “I know communism doesn’t work, and neither does advanced socialism. But what we have now, I can’t make the case that’s working either.” “What is the answer to this income inequality problem that we have?” Anthony Scaramucci and Lloyd Blankfein stare at each other with the look that says: “You wanna try and answer this question?” MAHER: “Next question.”

@burackbobby_ Because fathers teach kids to throw and swing a golf club. There are far fewer fathers present in black households.

Honest question: why is the lack of black people in pro golf, hockey, and baseball seen as an issue, but the lack of every other group but black people in pro football and basketball not? Why do black peope deserve representation in every sport, but white, Asian, and Hispanics don’t? Note: I don’t think any group deserves representation in any sport. By all indications, in 2026, the best athletes in every sport reach the highest levels. Everything can’t be as black and as non-white as the media demands. It’s not possible.
Golf Digest@GolfDigest

For the second straight year, there are no Black golfers in the Players Championship. That raises the question of how much the game affords opportunity to players of color who want to reach the highest level. Read more: glfdig.st/eAhf50YsX5E

🇮🇷 Iran has been hiding ballistic missiles inside ordinary cargo ships in the Indian Ocean, turning merchant vessels into surprise launch platforms that could strike the B-2 base at Diego Garcia. Ships like the Shahid Avi were converted into floating bases with drones, helicopters, fast attack boats, and vertical launch systems while still looking like regular cargo haulers. Now you understand why the US is hunting down every Iranian vessel it can find. Source: AI Telly

🇺🇸🇬🇧 Diego Garcia. A remote island in the Indian Ocean that most people couldn't find on a map. The joint U.S.-UK base has been one of America's most important military launchpads for decades. Britain blocked the U.S. from using it when the war with Iran began. Trump says it cost "3 or 4 days working out where we can land." Britain is also in the process of handing sovereignty of the island to Mauritius, raising serious questions about America's long-term access to its only base in the Indian Ocean. “The UK has been very, very uncooperative with that stupid island that they have,” Trump said. "My wife is the love of my life, and she's also a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall," Mamdani says, when asked about this story just now. Says it's his responsibility to answer to his "thoughts, policies and decisions."
Will Bredderman@WillBredderman

NEW, from me @J_Insider—New York City's First Lady, Zohran Mamdani's wife, liked Instagram posts celebrating the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel, including one that featured stills from livestreams of the assault and labeled it "systemic change for collective liberation."
