@movementcoachkm Very much a pared back, simple approach, at least in most cases. The amount of contact times means there's far more emphasis on "bang for your buck" training. Very enjoyable to be involved in from a coaching perspective.

@137lad @EndaEndamac95 Agree Colm Club hurling is absolutely fantastic over last few years Probably about that 2010-2016 IC era level of training, tactics etc

I actually really enjoyed this game overall last night. But there are a growing amount of phases like this. Been happening over a few years now. For me it’s not that entertaining. I have a hypothesis on why it’s happening though. It’s small sided games within a game. Which suggests to me SSG’s are being over used. Not necessarily by these 2 teams specifically either, but more players are now growing up this way. SSG’s have a place. They can technically help no end. They also are enjoyable and good for conditioning . I use them technically and physically in any invasion sport. But don’t over do them. There was a serious lack of quarterbacking, scanning or communication to get this switched to weak side. Something in fairness Linerick were excellent at. Twice no. 24 draws in the Limerick pressure. The game is played longitudinally over 130m. We have to practice in that game way too, and small slices. Playing through the lines if needed, but medium and long play also. There had to be oceans of space somewhere else out of this clip. Can we play through, around or over? is an omnipresent tactical decision process for hurlers especially as it’s such a fast game. And is this entertaining? “Good hurling”? Personal opinion of course but it’s lacking a bit. Hurling seems to be where football was 8-10 years ago as it evolves coaching (game based) and tactically. Every sport seems to go through this SSG phase As a related aside @EndaEndamac95 had an excellent article full of good ideas yesterday. One that jumped out for its simplicity and potential affect, “ban the roll lift” I’m almost certain it may lead to a return to some first time play and a reduction in rucks. irishexaminer.com/sport-columnis…

Do we overcomplicate what we’re saying to players when explaining a programme to them? Using language they aren’t overly familiar with to try and impress? 🧵

@movementcoachkm @somearagaa Not comparing the 2 teams per say, more the use of what could be seen as an agricultural puckout to go after 2 very systematic teams. Would agree that Cork are only beginning to find a style. Plenty of raw materials though.

I personally wouldn’t compare Cork and Sars (allowing for relative levels) I agree with the general idea you are putting forward though For a start Sars understand defensive principles. No comparison there. 2nd the data suggests Sars played it a few ways and were willing to pivot. The ball was also not just ballooned down the pitch. Sars also have a far more refined and (seemingly) principle based puckout. I might be proved wrong and maybe they layer on some more levels, but I think Corks approach was far less polished tbh

Great to see a Cork team analysed with Prostats ( @somearagaa ) Sars have added layers to their game and can do more than just through the lines now. They have added some steel also. They clearly do their homework. Cork hurling is so far behind in coaching, analysis and tactically hopefully this leads to a change. irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid…

@movementcoachkm @somearagaa Very interesting that 2 Cork teams have gotten great joy from the ultra long, central pickouts against the 2 most structured teams in hurling (Limerick and Ballygunner). Highlights the importance of principles over plays (get runners moving onto the breaks as a key principle)
