On Memorial Day, I remember Delta Force snipers Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart.
During Black Hawk Down, they inserted into a crash site to save pilot Mike Durant.
Both men died after a prolonged gunfight that saved Durant’s life. Both earned the Medal of Honor.

Those weapons stations were there on the legacy models. They had found in flight test that hey caused a lot of issues and for the longevity of the fleet they stopped flying them. Also, the mission requirements didn't require them in those early days.

@A10TheHog Do the Hi-res cockpit display, the CF-34s and PUT THE FRAGGING WING DISCONNECTS back where they belong. Also I think the Jet Shop guys would like improved engine management. Also... stop flying with that DAMN FUEL TANK... you look STUPID!

@A10TheHog don't get me started on those wings... Such a wasted opportunity to make some much-needed fixes was lost. Also, they found a way to make things worse

The A-10 started receiving new wings from Boeing in 2011.
The Air Force says this will add an additional 2,500 flight hours before the next replacement is needed.
This would allow the refitted A-10s to serve until 2035-2040, so long as retirement is kept at bay.
