🚑Ever call an ambulance? Did paramedics come to your rescue? Thank Freedom House.🚨 Freedom House Ambulance Service: a groundbreaking #emergency medical program founded in Pittsburgh in the late '60s. #FreedomHouse paramedics became some of the first highly trained emergency responders in the country, and they delivered care directly in neighborhoods that had long been underserved. The program recruited local Black men who had been denied stable job opportunities and provided them with rigorous, cutting‑edge medical training. The program’s success helped shape modern Emergency Medical Services (EMS) nationwide.
