“At death, the world does not alter, but comes to an end. Death is not an event in life: we do not live to experience death. [...]. Our life has no end in just the way in which our visual field has no limits.” —Ludwig Wittgenstein, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus

@1889lw i can agree to that. i also generally dislike larping except i get to larp as a fictional character i find cool which is generally rare. that said, i always suck at it so much i end up not doing it much.

I don’t like entitlement. I never understand why people larp. Then I feel an essential part of humanity has been forever inaccessible to me. Shall I mourn or not

@Chaos80397926 Not essential but important and common enough and I feel I need that piece to gain full insight of humanity

Many aged people would say something like “oh I used to be a woketard now I’m disillusioned with the left and happily married with 3 kids” and leave it like that. But fuck that incommensurability is so disgusting and appalling you can’t leave it like that explain the reason to me

New piece defending the applied turn in analytic philosophy. I say what the applied turn is, how it differs from the social turn, and why it isn't just left progressivism cloaked in the language of analytic philosophy. Link in the reply.

If the world prepares me with no generosity, is causation still real? Many such cases

@1889lw You don’t have a mind, Mr Wittgenstein. You’ve simply been attuned to the mind-talk Language Game. Without people you couldn’t know if you’re applying a term correctly.

@47fucb4r8c69323 Well yes, the kinds of jobs I can think of are uber driver, food delivery, bubble tea maker, requiring basically no skills apart from repetitive labour. There’s a huge surplus of graduates and it’s pretty sad kids go to uni for all kinds of knowledge and end up doing these.

Of course not universal, but the issue is these kids lack the economic opportunities from an organically diverse economy that would make soft skill labor opportunities more widely available. If China was less centrally planned and less restrictive on businesses outside tech, engineering, etc., these kids would be doing more than streaming/delivery. Also if China wasn't so restrictive on art/entertainment, many of those kids would be making content that isn't just "cute girl talking to the camera". Closed society and its discontents.

When I first started using this site seriously about 8 months ago, tons of people were talking about how China is surpassing America. Of course that all just made me laugh. But maybe some kids want this future idk Gen Z is kinda retarded.
Mario Nawfal@MarioNawfal

🇨🇳 China accidentally invented a closed-loop economy: young men default to delivery, young women turn to livestreaming. Streamers spend on food and makeup, delivery guys spend their salaries on stream gifts, and somehow the whole thing sustains itself.

Three years ago when Kathleen Stock was doing this in Oxford she was almost shut down. This is completely unprecedented.

lIf you do anything today, watch @MaeveHalligan at the Cambridge Union. I genuinely think this was the first time many people in that room were confronted with the hard reality of the trans debate, rather than the slogans that usually surround it. @BuckAngel was exceptional: calm, articulate, humane. Ultimate respect. And then there was Helen Webberley. I remember once thinking the criticism directed at her by GC women was excessive, especially the claim she was ‘pure evil’. After hearing her speak, I no longer think that. She is totally insincere. I can deal with hard ideologues- they believe they are telling the truth; they are genuine, @HelenWebberley is different. One audience member, a trans-identified male and former patient of hers, stood to speak during points of information. His account of how he had been treated was deeply disturbing. Watch the full debate. It is worth your time.

The idea that AI will NEVER be able to create art (movies, novels, digital graphics, essays) that “moves the soul”, or “could be called great” is silly. At some point, AI is going to be consistently as good as almost any other human in producing art.
