Tony Dungy said, “Luke Kuechly, he reminded me of Peyton Manning. He's totally prepared, he's going to know what happens because he has studied so much.” Luke Kuechly knew your athleticism will only take you so far. His greatest ability wasn’t his tackling or speed, it was his ability to prepare and his football IQ. Luke Kuechly became elite through his unrelenting work ethic, dedication to his craft, and commitment to excellence. Here is how he embodied those 3 values👇 Unrelenting Work Ethic On Christmas Eve in 2015, Ron Rivera said this is what he saw when he walked into the office, “I walked in, he was still on the projector. It was 5:15 or 5:30 (p.m.). I said, ‘Hey, you need to go home.’ He said, ‘Well, nobody gets here ‘til tomorrow morning.’ I said, ‘Well, it’s Christmas Eve, I think you need to go home. I’ll come back in an hour. I hope I don’t catch you.’ So I come back an hour later and I heard his door close, and I was around the corner. So I went in and looked up, and the light was still blinking. So I knew he just left. That’s what he does. That’s just the way he is.” Takeaway 1: Your work ethic and ability to prepare is what will separate you in life. NFL Players said Kuechly could call out 50-60% of their players before they even happened, just because he was prepared. When you spend time preparing and doing the work, you see the details at levels that most don't. Dedication to His Craft Coach Specht (Kuechly's high school coach), said “Everything you see on Sundays with Luke, he was meticulous when he was in high school and how he studied film and how he prepared. He understood every position on the field. He understood the game and studied the game, and he was always a step ahead of everybody else.” Takeaway 2: True progress requires a commitment to self-improvement and your craft. Growth isn't guaranteed. The disciplines and habits you set today will guide your future. The little details make big victories over time. By age 35, 95% of your day is defined by your habits. Commitment to Excellence Commitment to excellence means showing up, doing the work, and doing what it takes to be great. Kuechly took that to the next level with his nutrition and how he fueled his body. He said, "Working out and pushing your body to its limits isn’t easy, and you’re going to have days where it seems very difficult, but if you put in the work, and give your body the clean nutrients it needs to recover and get stronger, then the good days will outweigh the bad ones. We want to empower people to ‘stay hungry,’ and continue pushing towards their goals." Takeaway 3: Life is a boomerang, what you put into your body and mind is what you will receive. When you put clean foods and watch your nutrition, you will recovery faster, focus better, have higher energy, and improve your overall health. The same goes for your mind. What you consume will drive your thoughts, affect your energy, and influence your emotions.
