I co-introduced historic legislation to increase the minimum wage to $25. As someone who taught economics at Stanford, here is why it makes sense. The real minimum wage was $14 in 1968. Today it is half, but productivity has increased 2.5x. Instead of extractive capitalism, we need a free enterprise system that pays workers what they are worth.

A $20 over-the-counter drug in Europe, however in the USA it requires a prescription and $800. Eyedrops 'EvoTears' in Europe cost $21 over the counter. The American equivalent, Miebo, which is virtually identical to EvoTears, is sold for $835 AND it requires a prescription. Virtually same formula. Virtually same product. Forty times the price. Why? Likely because they pushed it through the FDA as a prescription drug instead of OTC, even though Europe has used it safely for years. That move lets them lock in patents, block competition, and rake in profits. As seems to be the case with most drugs, they are exploiting Americans while Europeans get the same product for way less. A 2021 RAND study found U.S. prescription drug prices are, on average, more than 2.5 times higher than in 32 other developed nations. Miebo exemplifies how some pharmaceutical companies exploit regulatory loopholes and patent protections
