No ghetto track back then. Just relatively recent Italian, Irish, Jewish and other immigrants who made the South Bronx home for a couple of generations. Once they 'made it' and moved all the way to the Nort Bronx, then the crime took over. In the '60s my parents wouldn't even let me play on the Cardinal Hayes baseball team because leaving practice at McCombs Damn Park in the dark was not a great idea.

I’ve really enjoyed your journey through Italy. I’ve been blessed by experiencing that on a half a dozen occasions. I never thought that would happen for me, having grown up the son of a Bronx patrolman back in the 1950s and 60s. Visiting the motherland, was not high on my list of hopeful life experiences, having been close to my immigrant grandparents who never got back to their own homeland. Thanks for sharing over the past week or so.
