Where is the true source of the River Clyde? The actual point where it comes out of the ground? Folk tales will tell you there’s a hill in southern Scotland where the Clyde, Tweed, and Annan are all birthed. But this is false. To find the farthest source of Scotland’s third longest river requires detective work. I went to see for myself where the Clyde bubbles from the rocks, and it isn’t mentioned in any account, nor marked on any map. The Clyde’s ultimate source is actually a small tributary of the Daer reservoir, high on the shoulder of Queensberry hill. I doubt more than a handful of people have ever stood there.
