You're not lucky. You did your research. You stopped wasting money. You learned to invest. You took risky decisions. You bought crypto assets. You endured many insults. You held through the bear market. You held through the fakeouts. You're now making gains. You're not lucky.

@wagmiAlexander Nobody wants coinbase to support memes, they want coinbase to support THEIR meme. Which is why no matter what these people will always be complaining.

When it comes to signaling support for memes, you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. The issue isn’t CB doesn’t care, it’s they care enough to get baited into an extractive game most will lose. It’ll be no different for Cobie and Vlad imo: lose, lose.

“so you bought coinbase man bc brian armstrong changed his pfp?” “yes, dave” “and then brian armstrong changed it again to a cryptopunk less than 24 hrs later?” “yes, dave” “and coinbase man dropped 95%?” “that’s correct, dave”

That’s a fairer criticism. You can argue he underestimated the reaction or handled it poorly, and I agree Base has been inconsistent around memes. What I push back on is turning that into “he knowingly shilled the coin.” Poor judgment and intentional promotion are not the same thing.

Dude, I agree with you, but by doing that, he clearly saw that the entire Base memecoin ecosystem exploded, or if he didn't see it coming, it's even worse. I'm talking about this; I wasn't invested in it, I didn't lose anything, but I can understand the frustration or anger of some. When Jesse says one day that he likes memecoins, the next day he does this and blows them all up, and by removing them (without warning), he must have suspected that memecoins were going to collapse, or if he didn't suspect it, that's serious. Anyway, I know, I like Base, I've been here for three years, but I think they're too disconnected from the average user. Robinoohd blew up his memecoins; maybe he wanted to show something, I don't know, but I don't think he did it the right way.

Come on. We all ape into dumb shit. I do it too. No judgment. Losing money fucking sucks. But let’s step back and say what actually happened. A CEO changed his pfp to a comic-book image someone else posted. A memecoin already existed using that image, because apparently everything on the internet has a coin now. He never mentioned it, linked it or told anyone to buy. Do we really expect people to tiptoe around every image they post and search the chain first to make sure nobody has tokenized it? We can’t preach permissionless markets and unlimited upside, then demand someone to blame when the same freedom cuts the other way. You pressed swap. Own your shit.

You’re proving my point though. The entire accusation rests on “he knew” and “he intended to,” neither of which you actually know. Changing a pfp a day later isn’t evidence of a shill. He never mentioned the token. CT filled in the blanks, traded its own interpretation, then treated that interpretation as fact.

Bruh, he knew what he was doing, why would he change it to a super hero image in the first place if he knew he was going to change it a day later. Coinbase, base makes the worst decisions constantly in regards to its users who create the volume on chain everyday. You do you but come on, you have been here long enough 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

Love crypto? Pass CLARITY to promote its growth. Hate crypto? Pass CLARITY to prevent its abuses. Don’t care or feel somewhere in the middle about crypto? Pass CLARITY to show Congress can still actually do something with the power granted by the American people. It’s time.

THE TIMELINE NEEDS MORE SUPERHEROES. Brian got Coinbase Man, Cobie got his own, and now it's your turn. tag @zoe_charms and say "superhero @account," "superhero Vitalik" or even "superhero me." she creates the character and launches its coin directly from X. the best superhero gets $500 to fuel its growth.

Engineers at Coinbase are getting closer to recursive self-improvement, or loops. For instance, agents can now ingest and summarize customer feedback collected right in the app, prioritize bugs and features based on that feedback, draft the code, security review it, and provide it to a human engineer for final review. All happens automatically each day and it learns from the human edits to improve over time. We're finding more areas to introduce loops across the company. Instead of prompting agents with what to do, you can increasingly give them a goal, and they bring back high quality work for you to review.
rob@rwitoff

The fundamentals of engineering haven't changed, but the daily work has. We're managing agents, building loops and taste and judgment matter more than ever. So we rebuilt how we hire engineers from scratch to match how we build. Here's what we've been up to @ Coinbase: coinbase.com/blog/interview…
