To confront Russia, “Europe will spend $90 billion it does not have, to buy weapons from the U.S. that it does not have, to arm soldiers that #Ukraine no longer has.” -- @Glenn_Diesen, Norwegian editor, writer and professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway.

@indepdubnrth Putin is continuing his invasion, so Putin is prolonging the war. Ireland is guaranteeing less than 1% of this loan. Christianity says it's fine to defend yourself and your fellow man from unjust attack. Neutrality doesn't mean blind.

Well done, Mehole: 90Billion to be spent on prolonging a war and facilitating the killing of thousands more; men, women, and children. What a wonderful Christian and an ambassador for neutrality.
Micheál Martin@MichealMartinTD

Much to discuss in Cyprus. We warmly welcome the unblocking of the €90b EU loan for Ukraine. It’s vital for Ukraine’s defence, and its energy infrastructure. This sends a very serious signal; Europe is behind Ukraine for the long haul.

So, Ukraine gets its €90 billion I get the optics. EU must do something, otherwise this Biden/NATO/EU foreign policy disaster in Eastern Europe turns also into a defeat. But let’s take a step back, like few in the EU echo-chamber dare do anymore, because the Zelenskyy cult is so dominant in Brussels, and so strongly shored up by super-lobbyists like Tony Blair, Anders Fogh-Rasmussen, Carl Bildt or Sanna Marin. 1st great tragedy here: EU is sending this money to 🇺🇦 while continuing to purchase billions in oil and gas from 🇷🇺. 🇪🇺 is funding both sides of this conflict and has done for 4yrs. An inhumane shitshow. 2nd tragedy: this money will fund thousands more being unwillingly sent to die over a few square kms of farmland in Eastern Ukraine. There are stories about corrupt 🇺🇦 army recruitment personnel extorting life savings from people who are unsurprisingly willing to pay anything not to die on the front line. Also heard further you go through the recruitment process, the more people must be paid off. This is why recruiters are now openly being attacked and arrested in Ukraine itself. Patience is wearing thin. No doubt something similar is happening in Russia. 3rd tragedy: by now, we know lots of the money will be stolen. Corrupt officials, oligarchs and military personnel expect their share. We’ve seen countless stories in the press about corruption in 🇺🇦, yet this endemic corruption is quietly sidelined by “journalists” when Brussels celebrates billions of EU taxpayers money being sent to Kyiv. Just this week, we learnt mayors on low salaries and oligarchs with vast fortunes are busy buying properties in Monaco and elsewhere. With elections suspended in Ukraine, and a state of war in place, they are cashing out seemingly unhindered, and choosing jurisdictions they obviously feel they can trust long term. Macron’s France is clearly seen as one such place. It is also clear that while France is pushing billions towards Ukraine, the French state won’t be investigating or arresting many corrupt Ukrainian officials. Such stories would be devastating for Macron’s ability to keep funding the Zelenskyy regime. I repeat: this kind of corruption and taking of funds to beautiful European rivieras is no doubt also happening on the Russian side. This isn’t about picking sides. This is about the right and ability to discuss some of the awkward truths around the war in Ukraine and the vast EU taxpayers funds being sent there. To criticise the horrifying continuation of the conflict, or the absurd ongoing funding of both sides, or the corruption in Ukraine doesn’t make me pro-Putin. It makes me a normal human being. Millions share my concerns. That is why I have assisted efforts to get Europeans and Russians to sit around tables together again, and why I am so disheartened when the EU elite threaten to withdraw funding from the Paralympics or Venice Biennial just because Russian athletes and artists are participating. This smacks of wanting to dehumanise Russians, so that war—and even widespread continental war—is easier to sell to Europeans. The problem in Brussels (and Berlin, Paris, London, Helsinki, Tallin, Warsaw, Riga, Stockholm, etc) is that a majority of politicians there (and the malleable reporters who are their obedient allies on this topic) are so dogmatic only victory over Moscow is now perceived as an acceptable outcome. Putting aside the many military experts who are categorical that such an outcome is impossible, few seem to acknowledge the vast human and financial cost of their geopolitical desires, or the many absurdities/contradictions of the policies they’ve implemented. That is why I find Kallas and Zelenskyy always smiling so disturbing. They appear to have psychologically detached their desire for victory from the terrible realities of war. I hope with this article I have added some rationality to the belief (sadly still a controversial one in Brussels) that this war should end as soon as possible.

@Cl43471Francois @James7Holland Good news for Ukrainian people, the Russian army will not enter your cities and towns in 26/27. Bad news for Zelensky, the Constitution prohibits election during wartime so you are stuck in the job.

The No.1 reason why Micheál Martin needs to go A global economic war for energy has begun. Ireland has its own oil. We are the envy the world. Not using it is economic self-sabotage wrapped up in a sanctimonious narcissism around climate change. Reality is coming.

Deadlock over. The EU just cleared the way for the €90-billion-loan for Ukraine and the 20th sanctions package. Russia’s war economy is under growing strain, while Ukraine is getting a major boost. We will provide Ukraine what it needs to hold its ground, until Putin understands his war leads nowhere.

Concerned for the many retail investors who bought $AVEX up nearly 100% in a matter of days without fully understanding the risks. Reasons I would not own this stock: 1. The vast majority of revenue is tied to programs supporting Ukraine. When this conflict ends or the U.S. scales back support, revenue faces significant and immediate risk. 2. High private equity ownership. With a lockup expiring in October, the historical PE playbook is to sell systematically into retail enthusiasm. We’ve seen this happen many times. 3. Gross margins were 21.8% in 2025, down from 28.1% the year prior. For a business scaling rapidly in a single conflict, this number is moving in the wrong direction. 4. IPO proceeds were used primarily to restructure debt, not fund growth. $AVEX issued no formal forward guidance in their prospectus. For a stock trading at nearly double its IPO price, that is a significant lack of visibility. 5. The entire product portfolio is concentrated on offensive strike missions. No counter-UAS solutions, no ground robotics, no missile defense, no stratospheric ISR, no $PLTR integration. The FY2027 defense budget allocates $20.6B to counter-UAS alone, up 424% YoY. $AVEX has no meaningful presence in any of the fastest-growing segments. $AVEX is a real business with a strong backlog, proven deliveries, and impressive IP, but the risk/reward is not there for me personally. $AVEX will likely benefit to some degree from the 2027 defense budget, but right now, they are a wartime contractor with high PE ownership, declining margins, negative FCF, and extreme revenue/customer concentration tied to a single conflict that the U.S. wants to end. I wish everyone well with their investments!
