UWinnipeg recognizes Transgender Awareness Week (Nov. 13-19) and the Transgender Day of Remembrance (Nov. 20) as an opportunity to reaffirm our collective commitment to building trans solidarity and uniting against transphobia. Transgender Awareness Week is a time to build awareness about the experiences of trans and gender-diverse people, and to ensure we are fostering an inclusive, affirming community all year long. Everyone on campus deserves to work and study in an environment of respect and inclusion. Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to listen to the voices of trans and gender-diverse people and recognize that allyship is a process of continual learning and reflection. Consider taking part in one of these upcoming events: On Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in 3C00, Dr. Karen Warkentin (Boston University) will deliver the 2024 Laird Lecture, entitled "Crossing boundaries, disrupting binaries: A queer perspective on the diversity of life." This lecture is free and open to the public. Paint and craft supplies will be available, so students can bring in an item to paint. Follow the QSA on Instagram for more information. A coalition of community organizations are organizing a Transgender Day of Remembrance event at The Forks’ Oodena Circle on Nov. 20.
