Trump just gave Iran 48 hours to open the world's most important waterway, or the United States will destroy its power grid.
One month ago, the US and Israel launched Operation Epic Fury, nearly 900 strikes in 12 hours killing Iran's Supreme Leader in the opening wave.
Iran's response was not surrender but rather the Strait of Hormuz.
That narrow 33-kilometer stretch of water carries roughly 20% of the entire world's oil supply every single day, and Iran shut it down.
But here is what almost no one is talking about.
Look at a map of Iran, really look at it.
Iran is surrounded by two of the most brutal mountain ranges on earth, and they have protected this country from every invader for thousands of years.
To the west stands the Zagros Mountains, over 1,500 kilometers long, with peaks above 4,000 meters.
To the north runs the Alborz range, with Mount Damavand rising to 5,610 meters, the highest peak in the entire Middle East.
Between those two mountain walls sit two of the most inhospitable deserts on the planet and Iran as a whole is geographically larger than Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy combined.
There are zero US boots on the ground inside Iran, and the terrain is the reason.
Iran tunneled its nuclear and missile sites deep into the Zagros Mountains, carving facilities into folded limestone and sandstone so the geology itself becomes the armor.
That is why nearly 900 air strikes have not ended this war.
You can bomb what you can find, and the mountain fortress is hiding what you cannot.
Oil prices have surged 40-50% since the war began, Brent crude is now trading around $103 a barrel, and Bloomberg called it the worst supply disruption in the history of the oil market.
Iran has also mined the strait, fired missiles at Gulf energy facilities, and banned all ships flagged to the US- Israel, and their allies from passing through.
And tonight at 7:44 PM, Trump posted directly on Truth Social:
"If Iran doesn't FULLY OPEN the Strait of Hormuz within 48 HOURS, the United States will hit and obliterate their POWER PLANTS, starting with the BIGGEST ONE FIRST."
That biggest plant is almost certainly Bushehr , Iran's nuclear power plant sitting directly on the Persian Gulf coast and Iran's own Foreign Minister has already said its targeting would trigger "zero restraint."
This is the same Trump who told PBS just days ago that he had deliberately avoided power plants because the civilian damage would be catastrophic.
Tonight he is threatening exactly that.
Just hours before this ultimatum, Trump posted that the US was considering winding down military operations entirely.
Then came this threat.
The Pentagon simultaneously announced the deployment of three more warships and 2,500 additional Marines, the second such deployment in a single week bringing total US forces in the region to roughly 50,000 troops.
The mountains absorbed 900 air strikes and protected Iran's most critical infrastructure.
Now, unable to finish the war from the air, Trump is threatening to turn off the lights for 90 million people instead.
The 48-hour clock started at 7:44 PM Eastern on Saturday, March 21, and the deadline hits late Monday night.
Every barrel of oil on earth is now priced against what happens next
