Trying to remember the last time a Penguins defenseman has played at the level we've seen from Karlsson during the last few weeks. Letang was great in 2016. Gonchar was terrific. But I think we have to go back to Paul Coffey. That's what we're seeing right now, an artist at work.

Karlsson was magnificent again. Wotherspoon was fine. The rest of the blue line really struggled tonight, notably Letang. He just didn't process information with the puck on his blade. Was consistently a step slow and made the wrong reads all night. His play is a huge concern.

@JoshYohe_PGH Josh, is it possible Letang has had a mini-stroke recently? Something affecting his eye-hand coordination or judgement? A new coach like Dan Muse might not pick up on the change in Letang’s reflexes.

The Letang situation is bleak. He’s a legitimate HOF defenseman who has done incredible things for the franchise. He’s also an incredibly prideful man. I don’t think he sees that his game has slipped. He certainly doesn’t play that way. He’s going to force the organization’s hand
