@20splentyforus I was invited to and attended a 20mph party in Swansea on the weekend. A year after the last 20mph party. There were a lot of people there, in fact many more than last year. The message is getting through - 20mph in Wales is history in the making, in a good way for a change.

Well done Wales. 12 months of lives being saved, injuries reduced, friendlier streets, safer walking and cycling, reduced noise, more mobility options, lower insurance accident damage claims, lower insurance premiums. Not perfect and still some tuning to do but a real success

Great to see insurance companies like esure are reducing car insurance premiums in Wales after the implementation of a default 20mph urban/village speed limit. This approximates to £50 per policy for the average customer and equivalent to £1.4bn for the 28m privately owned cars in the UK. See bit.ly/3Zh9snX

1/6 This tweet generated a lot of noise which I expected. I stand by it. Nor was I rude/insulting. #1 We can all be ignorant sometimes on some matters. A lot of people are clearly not aware of the broad/robust& increasing body of data that supports 20mph in urban/built up areas

Good to hear @Eluned_Morgan on @BBCr4today supporting 20mph in "built-up areas" with exceptions determined by LAs using @WGTransport guidance. This is based on Safe System and 20mph as norm unless evidentially safe for vulnerable road users. 20splenty.org/w_faq09

Right I have gone through the latest 20mph data for Wales and have made this video. However, I know many of you prefer a thread so I've done that as well. Long story short, 20mph seems to be working VERY well and is already paying for itself. [Thread]

Of course @Eluned_Morgan will have listened to those clicking the anti-20mph petition. But she will also know how fantastical were the petition claims and how it ran out of steam after 2 weeks. She also knows the huge numbers benefitting. 20splenty.org/w_faq08

THE DEFAULT 20MPH LIMIT FOR BUILT-UP ROADS IN WALES IS STAYING. There are no plans to change it. The new updated guidance, just like previous guidance, allows authorities to except individual roads using a TRO if evidentially justified. gov.wales/setting-30mph-…

Note. The 20mph speed limit for restricted roads in Wales is not being changed. The guidance for setting 30mph as an exception on a restricted road has been updated with same principles as previous guidance in requiring evidential justification by local highway authorities.

20mph is working in Wales and we are glad to see that, following an extensive consultation, pedestrian safety remains integral to the revised guidance framework

@resophonick I travel at least 80 miles a day in Swansea city and and surrounding areas the 20mph has made no difference to my working week, I start and finish at exactly the same time every day as I did when it was 30mph!
