Fort Knox holds roughly 147 million ounces of gold. More than half of America's total reserves. Hundreds of billions of dollars sitting in one vault in Kentucky. The last full physical audit was in 1953. The 1974 "audit" everyone points to was a tour. They opened one section for a handful of Congress members and reporters, showed some bars, took some pictures, and closed the door. No full count. No independent weighing. No purity testing of every bar. Nothing close to real verification. That was over 50 years ago. The Treasury says internal reviews happen and the books balance. Maybe they do. But this is the public's gold. It belongs to the American people, and no independent party has verified it exists in more than half a century. Germany physically verified and repatriated its gold. The Netherlands did the same. The technology exists to audit every single bar with serial tracking, assay testing, and tamper-evident seals without compromising security. If everything checks out, confidence in US reserves gets stronger. If it does not check out, we deserve to know. There is legislation floating around that would require an independent audit every few years. It should not be controversial. Audit Fort Knox.
