👀 Let's deep dive into @Digitaldoes career... 👀 The graffiti legend teaming up with the AI pioneer @genekogan for the next drop on Streetlab.io 👇 1. His story Joos van Barneveld, better known as multidisciplinary artist DOES, has been perfecting his style since he first discovered graffiti at the age of fifteen. Dedication, focus and self-restraint are ingrained in him after living the life of a professional football player until the age of 28. For more than a decade he combined the daily discipline of a professional athlete with the night-time secrets of a graffiti writer until a knee injury forced him to give up his career as a professional football player. His style DOES’ style is today highly recognizable and has become a mix of influences from old-school writers and his own research. In his drawings and paintings you can discover the roots of 3D lettering, but you can also be surprised by his patient research of well-balanced color schemes and his capacity of controlling the purity of outlines. His letters are stretched so much that they seem to release their energy and spread drips all over the wall. No matter the medium, DOES’ work breathes exuberance – bright, dynamic, and full of energy. 3. His paper collages In his past study of letters, he used to print copies of his drawings and tear them into pieces. By deconstructing the letter forms this way, he developed an understanding of their composition. In his first collages, you can see an extensive use of torn pieces of paper. His more recent collages are characterized by many layers. Each collage he creates is more detailed and refined than the previous one. He sets high standards for the quality of the paper he works with. Nothing is accidental about the collages, all parts are carefully placed. There is a thread in everything. From the lines in the structure of the paper to the placement of the letters and the elements in the frame. The cool thing about working with paper is that nothing is fixed until I stick it with glue. In that sense it is very different from working with paint that has to be right the first time.
