The 22nd Circuit Court thanks the assistant circuit attorneys, public defenders, court staff and sheriff's deputies for volunteering their time to help students better understand the court system here.

The students from teacher Michelle Klimpel's law class heard evidence in an abbreviated assault case to observe how evidence is presented in a real courtroom setting.

Eight St. Mary's High School students visited Circuit Judge Theresa Counts Burke's courtroom today to serve as jurors in a mock assault trial put on by dedicated members of the Circuit Attorney's Office and St. Louis Public Defenders Office.

Our judges love having students observe court proceedings to learn about the legal system. Schools wishing to bring classes to court are welcome to contact us DM or via email 22circuitpublicinfo at courts dot mo dot gov.

They asked excellent questions about how the judges approach cases and what challenges they've faced during their careers. The students then observed opening statements of an assault trial in Judge Annette Llewellyn's courtroom.

Thank you to Cardinal Ritter College Prep for bringing students yesterday to our courthouse! The students, part of the school's "intern leadership program," spent the morning chatting with Judges Clinton Wright and Katherine Fowler about their roles and paths to the bench.
