@PeteNakos Coaches leaving before the playoffs is awful. But the idea that the government should regulate this is absolutely ridiculous.

The bill also includes an NFL-style rule, dubbed the "Lane Kiffin Rule", which would prohibit coaches from leaving their team before the season ends. Would be enforced at the conference level. on3.com/news/senators-…

The most important piece of this Senate bill: Includes the opportunity for schools to collectively pool media rights. A threshold of 75% of 138 FBS schools must be reached. Even if Big Ten + SEC didn't sign off and rest of FBS did, it would be over 75%. on3.com/news/senators-…

@PeteFiutak This is so obviously unconstitutional. The only real option to get those restrictions is through collective bargaining.

The government wants to regulate the employment practices of a company, and along the way, wants to tell private institutions what they can and can't spend money on?! Federal legislation will try to restrict coaches from searching for and taking other jobs? This should go great

@CoachD178 I struggle to see how some of those restrictions will pass constitutional muster (unless some sort of representative players association agrees to them).

We are going to study all this and discuss it in tomorrow’s show. A lot I like here. Some I don’t. Overall think this a definitely a net positive in many areas.

@RossDellenger @YahooSports Unless the player signs a contract, not sure what right they have to restrict football players as an example from transferring when any other student can transfer on their own as many times as they want and can get accepted

@RossDellenger @YahooSports Unless some sort of players entity, like a union, agrees to these restrictions, I find it hard to believe this is constitutional.

@bearsfan302 @chicagobars Yes, many entities within the city would like the Bears to stay.Nobody is arguing that. But it's also pretty obvious that a Hammond stadium would be better for Chicago hotels, restaurants, & bars than an Arlington Heights one. This is obvious and common sense, not some conspiracy.

Oh Lord, we’ve reached the “Taking hostages” phase of the McCaskey stadium subsidy Statehouse boondoggle. “Gosh if taxpayers don’t subsidize a new stadium for the billionaire heirs of a NFL team then that $200M chunk of Arlington Heights they bought might become worthless!”🙄

If Murakami is not extended and opts for free agency after next season, the Cubs should throw the kitchen sink at him. You want a power hitter? He fits the bill. #Cubs

Legislation meant to keep the Chicago Bears in Illinois comes at a cost — one that the average Illinois homeowner may not find worth it, a new report from Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas’ office suggests. chicago.suntimes.com/bears-stadium/…

@jlevija87 @Suntimes Those people will still come and stay, eat, and drink in Chicago for a stadium 2 minutes over the border. In fact, Chicago will get far more business from a Hammond stadium than a Arlington Heights one. This is common sense.

@Suntimes Tell the people how much money Chicago and Illinois lose with the Bears in Indiana. There are some of us only come to Chicago to see either the Bears and soldier field even if the team isn't playing. How much money are they losing.

@WGNNews Regardless, the residents are taking the negative because what no one is willing to talk about is the revenue generated and taxes paid through the revenue that gets generated. With no revenue, residents pick up all slack because the political class won't stop spending money.

@ta11131262 @WGNNews 6 whole NFL stadiums are privately owned. Yes, being in the prime middle of the NW burbs has high taxes. THEY bought there knowing this. Hammond is literally less than a mile from the border and far closer to the city. Our workers will get jobs.
