After 41 years of dedicated service, CS Joe Doherty retired from the Defence Forces. To commemorate this milestone, a coffee morning was held in his honour. Lt Col O'Shea, OC 28 Inf Bn, made a special presentation to Joe Doherty for his outstanding service and loyalty.

The Defence Forces can confirm that they have received reports of an incident this morning involving a joint Irish UNIFIL & Lebanese Armed Forces Patrol near the Blue Line in South Lebanon. A number of small arm rounds were fired in the vicinity of the area in which the Patrol was operating. The patrol withdrew from the area, there was no injuries to the personnel on the patrol and no damage reported to the armoured vehicles they were operating from. All Personnel of the Irish Contingent in Lebanon are reported to be safe and well, they continue to monitor the situation in Southern Lebanon and are committed the stability of the region as impartial peacekeepers. We wish to remind all actors of their responsibility to ensure the safety and security of UN Peacekeepers.

The 28th Bn, in conjunction with the 6th Bn had students that successfully completed the Javelin YE course. The students were tested on AFV level 2 in Custume barracks Athlone on the 19/02/25 and completed the course with a tactical carrying exercise in Finner Camp today.

We want to congratulate the 44 Recruit Platoon on their passing out today in Finner Camp after 12 weeks of training. Bn Comd Lt Col O’Shea presented the awards for best soldier and best shot. The first step in their journey as soldiers of Oglaigh Na hEireann. #bemore

Today 11th of February Lt Col James O'Shea alongside BSM Noel Gallagher, presented Aidan Rattigan, Manager Beechwood House Letterkenny ONE with a cheque in the amount of €1583, collected from the members of the 28th Infantry Battalion. Helping to support our veterans.

The 44th Recruit Platoon have just completed their 96 hour exercise. They got to perform a variety of patrols, section attacks and a final raid. The recruits are now preparing for their last week of training before beginning their final 2-3 star training in the upcoming weeks.

Today the 44th recruit platoon commenced their training in the 28 Bn. They will undergo rigorous training for the next 12 weeks, embracing the challenges ahead with resilience and determination. We wish them the best of luck. #bemore

Congratulations to retired Signal Man Mr. Don O'Donnell on receiving his Certificate of Achievement from Lt. Col. Jim O'Shea, in recognition of his dedicated service to the Defence Forces and his contributions with No. 2 Infantry Group in the Congo in 1963.
