Around 1965, Hallicrafters introduced the Cyclone SR-400, followed shortly by the improved Cyclone II SR-400 in 1966. Introduced during the transition from separate transmitters and receivers to integrated transceivers, the Cyclone II delivered 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meter bands.

Panadaptors like the PCA-2 were originally developed during World War II for military signal monitoring and intelligence work. After the war, surplus technology and new commercial versions became available to amateur radio operators and shortwave listeners.
