First demonstration of a topological photonic crystal in a quasi-bulk van der Waals material WS2: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac… The WS2 nanophotonics platform is similar to silicon-on-insulator: exfoliated 200 micron flakes (30-300 nm thick) are attached directly to SiO2.

Our latest work "High Q Hybrid Mie-Plasmonic Resonances in van der Waals Nanoantennas on Gold Substrate" is online pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…. Use of quasi-bulk high-refractive-index TMDs opens new approach for achieving high-Q nanophotonic structures in visible and near-infrared.

@OPNmagazine @USNRL Layered materials work perfectly as waveguides, nanoantannas, photonic crystals etc. Many have high refractive indices, useful optical anisotropy & nonlinearity. @2Dsheffield A great comprehensive paper on binary/ternary TMD heterostructures; a lot of work was done in preparing the samples and undertaking the measurements, kudos!

Our new paper in Advanced Materials applies alloying in atomically thin semiconductors for band structure engineering in van der Waals heterostructures. This work is dedicated to Alessandro Catanzaro who led this research during his PhD in Sheffield. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

Our new work on "Nonlinear Rydberg exciton-polaritons in Cu2O microcavities" has just appeared in Light Science and Applications. Great UK/Germany collaboration crucially supported by a Centre-to-Centre EPSRC grant between Sheffield and TU Dortmund. nature.com/articles/s4137…
