Israel just passed a bill that makes the death penalty the default punishment for Palestinians in the West Bank convicted of lethal crimes. The law stipulates these Palestinians must be executed within 90 days of sentencing. Palestinians only; the bill does not apply to Israelis. The biggest problem with it is that Palestinians in the West Bank live under military law where conviction rates of Palestinians are over 99%. These aren’t real convictions. They’re rubber stamps. Israel currently holds 10,000 Palestinians as prisoners. How many of them does Israel plan on executing? Probably as many as they can get away with. That’s been their M.O. for 78 years.
