Cuando oigo a alguien hablar del griego como "lengua muerta" siento un profundo rechazo. Una lengua no deja de ser como un ser vivo en continuo movimiento, y lo que hoy entendemos por "griego antiguo" o "moderno" no son más que simples fotogramas de un incesante río de voces y de ecos. Desde Homero hasta ese panhelenismo irisado de Cavafis. Me siento profundamente en deuda con estos nombres, y honrado de haber compartido tramos inolvidables de mi vida traduciéndolos e intentándolos rehacer (con mayor o peor fortuna) en mi lengua materna.
