@Wormsworth__ I have the view that it’s just humans and “everything else” and not much discrimination in “everything else”

More complex nervous systems = more capacity to suffer = more moral consideration. This is the moral reasoning of humans who center themselves -- and thus complexity -- in determining worth.
MauM ☯️ 🐍🌱@maum_soy

@Wormsworth__ @sibaburck The least suffering in the whole, the better. The more well-being, the better. More complex nervous system = more capacity of suffering. Not really that difficult to understand.

Just saw two posts about “my fictional character supports my political views” and the entire comments section was just arguing about sailor moon and Batman lore

I fundamentally don’t understand dyscalculia. It doesn’t make sense to me. I have no intuition for algebraic geometry despite years of practice but that doesn’t mean I have a disability. Having poor grasp on arithmetic should also not count as a disability

There are three people who have written good textbooks for completely different reasons: Atiyah+macdonald, Jack Lee, Johan de Jong. Jack Lee is the best of these three because he wrote three great books while the others wrote one. Everyone else sucks at writing textbooks

If you are a math nerd, Munkres will never disappoint you The ways the MIT math profs present this stuff is unlike anything you’ve probably ever seen and it’s nothing short of revealing an entirely new and beautiful world to you of how to think about the material

@Silible59 No dyslexia makes more sense because it’s more perceptual. Lack of numeracy can be accounted for by mapping contexts to other frameworks

@2oovy But most humans learn to count without troubles. Most mammals can't. The humans that have trouble to learn to count usually have a cognitive disability. It's the same for dyslexia and I think saying "I don't understand dyslexia" is kind of contemptuous
